HADJIGIORKIS FLOURMILLS GRAIN BINS
One of our latest projects is the brand-new Grain Bins (Silos) along with their operational infrastructure of the company Cyprus Millers by Hadjigiorkis in Frenaros, Cyprus.
Cyprus Millers by Hadjigiorkis is a leading Cypriot flour industry, awarded the Cyprus Responsible Business Awards in 2020. Starting back in 1945, Hadjigiorkis company specializes in the development, production, packaging, sale and distribution of flour products. During the latest years, the company has been constantly growing into a modern flour industry with sixteen (16) grain storage facilities (silos) with a total capacity of 20,000 tons, a modernly equipped Quality Control Laboratory, a national distribution system and the ability to export its products to the international market.
Grain Bin (or Silo) is a high-capacity commercial structure that is used for permanent grain storage. They are wide buildings consisting of corrugated metal sheets with a cylindrical body and a peaked roof while internally, 15 temperature sensors are installed in each one of them. Handling of the grain flow is achieved through an entire handling system of slide gates and chain conveyors at the base level of each Silo.
Platonas Stylianou & Associates Civil and Structural Engineers L.L.C. was assigned with the structural & seismic designing and supervision of the foundation bases and the entire product circulation infrastructure of the eight (8) new Grain Bins and also the two (2) new steel-structure Intake Halls with total reception capacity of 300tn/h and Head House with pre-cleaning machinery. Both Intake Halls and Head House include basement levels comprising reinforced concrete walls, columns, beams and slabs. Each one of the Grain Bins is approximately 11m diameter and 19m height supported on specially formed RC foundation bases while the design was developed in collaboration with SYMAGA and BÜHLER. Designing also involved general external works, drainage channels and circulation ducts and trenches.
