Fire Station 649
Seismic strengthening design along with other minor works for an existing Fire Station in the British Forces area in Dhekelia.
Fire Station consists of two different structures in touch. A steel framed structure with steel trusses including an R.C. mezzanine level and a second one consisting of concrete block load bearing walls with timber roof and an external R.C. veranda.
Strengthening works involved jacketing of existing R.C. columns, introduction of new R.C. shear walls, installation of gunite layers on existing calcarenite and concrete block walls, introduction of new steel columns and braces to support a high, well-built calcarenite stone wall, addition of steel members on the roof trusses to further improve the general behavior of the roof, replacement of the existing timber roof system and strengthening works in the foundation elements respectively.
